Chemical Response to Oil Spills: Ecological Effects Research Forum (CROSERF)

The purpose of CROSERF was to provide state, Federal, and international agencies, industry, academic researchers and consultants engaged in oil spill response research with a forum for exchanging ideas and coordinating research. HDR|Ecosystem Management and Associates staff developed this workgroup with the Marine Spill Response Corporation, and conducted a total of nine meetings between 1994 and 2001. Specific objectives of the forum included: resolving scientific issues related to ecological effects of dispersants for oil spill response; standardizing laboratory toxicity testing for dispersed oils; fostering cooperative laboratory and mesocosm research programs for oil spill response issues; encouraging the application of laboratory data by decision-makers; and developing risk assessment protocols.
